Unusual eye injury related to abusive head trauma

Abstract Ophthalmological examination is an essential component in clinically diagnosing abusive head trauma (AHT). Typical of AHT injuries retinal bleeding, with other parts the eye sometimes also being affected. Visual impairment and blindness are long-term complications this context. We present a case unusual after diagnostically confirmed AHT. The ophthalmological findings on admission day showed massive subhyaloid hemorrhage at posterior pole extensive flame-shaped intraretinal hemorrhages accented right side., A centrally localized vitreous appeared both sides 3 weeks later, obscuring optic disc macula most probably due to breakthrough sub-internal limiting membrane (ILM) into cavity. Follow-up 4 later revealed dense organized occupying so that pars plana vitrectomy was performed eyes. bilateral bleeding different layers, proliferative vitreoretinal reaction (PVR) indicated damage caused by significant acceleration-deceleration trauma. two-phase child does not yet appear have been described literature.
